The football world is watching Jared Goff, the No. 1 overall pick of the 2016 draft.

He struggled in his first preseason game, going 4-9 with no touchdowns and an interception. But that’s par for the course with a rookie, especially when it’s his first year in a pro style offense. Then in his second preseason game, the Los Angeles Rams’ young quarterback started out struggling.

The Rams helped Goff struggle too as receiver Brian Quick wasn’t ready for his first pass of the night. That wasn’t the only time Quick would let down his rookie quarterback either.

early in entering the contest after Case Keenum led two touchdown drives against the Kansas City Chiefs. On Goff’s second try, he tried to step up in the pocket, tripped over a blocker’s leg, fell and fumbled. The Kansas City Chiefs would then capitalize and put some points up.

He fumbled again on third-and-four while getting hit but this one tumbled out of bounds. If anything, Goff should have thrown it away but he hung onto the ball to long. It time, he’ll learn to get rid of the ball quicker instead of take unnecessary hits.

The Rams didn’t challenge the Rams downfield much so Chiefs defenders sat on short routes. That made things tough on Goff, forcing him to try and fit passes into tight windows. But as his second preseason game went on, he got better.

He finished the night 8-of-12 for 82 yards and a touchdown. You can see the talent is there as he put plenty of zip on his passes and was accurate when he set his feet. But you can also see that at times, he doesn’t look like he knows what he’s doing.

Meanwhile, Casey Keenum was comfortable and led two scoring drives. So the Rams will be smart to leave him in as the starter while Goff continues to grow.
