With the dead-last ranked passing attack in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers are thinking about making a change at quarterback. But as bad as the current starter Blaine Gabbert has been, there really shouldn’t be much to think about.

Thursday night, the San Francisco 49ers lost their fourth of five games against the Arizona Cardinals. Afterward, head coach Chip Kelly was asked at the podium about a quarterback change. And Kelly’s response was, “We’re going to look at everything.”

Yes, the Niners should look at everything but passing is what they do worse than everyone in the NFL. And current starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert is widely known as a bust. When the 49ers fell behind Thursday, the crowd chanted, “We want Kap! We want Kap!”

So what is there to think about?

You’d think the team also wants to see a change at quarterback with the way things are going. Kelly has discussed about making a move, which is probably why the 49ers are closing in on a restructured contract. But as things never are in the NFL, it just isn’t that simple.

According to NFL.com, sources say there are various factors that go into the decision to start  Colin Kaepernick. I guess the concerns about his health are real but he’s not back up to his playing weight yet. However, they say “He’s just zipping the ball.” meaning his arm is strong again.

Then of course, there’s the issue of the locker room becoming divided. But another NFL.com  source said there really is no issue in San Francisco. The team is young and doesn’t have any loyalties to either Kaepernick or Gabbert.

Yet another NFL.com source said, “It’s not like Kaepernick is outplaying Blaine in practice. It’s basically the same. Both make some throws, miss some throws. It’s not like players are saying, ‘We need this guy.'”

That means no one is sold on Kaepernick and the 49ers have a hot mess on their hands!
