The Buffalo Bills do not want to pay quarterback Tyrod Taylor’s big salary in 2017. So all of the sudden, Cardale Jones has become an option to replace him.

The Bills have a month to play chicken with quarterback Tyrod Taylor for his $30.75 million option for 2017. They want Taylor to agree to something less but he will not. So many believe the Bills will sign or draft another QB to replace him.

Bills have been recently reported to have a ton of interest in Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo. But no one is going to trade for an aging, injury prone QB. So Romo will likely be released by the Cowboys and where he goes will be up to him.

And the QBs in the class of 2017 don’t appear to be anything to write him about. But according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, the Bills do have another viable option. He reported that GM Doug Whaley is okay with the idea of starting 2016 fourth-round pick Cardale Jones.

Jones looked like a No. 1 overall prospect in 2014, leading Ohio State to a National Championship. Then he lost his job the following year, leading to his fourth-round selection. Jones sat the bench as a rookie until the Bills put him in at the end of a meaningless Week 17 game.

So he merely got his feet wet, unable to prove he’s ready to start this year. But all of the sudden, Whaley apparently thinks he is ready to start. And since Whaley is the one who makes the personnel decisions in Buffalo, we could see Jones in 2017.

Or is that a part of him playing chicken with Taylor?
