Victor Cruz Should go to the West Coast in 2017

From 2011-2013,Victor Cruz was the media darling of New York. But that deteriorated quickly and he now finds himself out of work. Perhaps he should try to resurrect his career on the west coast.

Victor Cruz made the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2010. And in 2011, he took the NFL by storm with big plays to the tune of 1,536 yards and nine TDs. From 2011-2013, he was the apple of the Big Apple’s eye, essentially owning the town.

Then he started getting injured and Odell Beckham Jr. arrived in 2014, taking the Big Apple away. And once Sterling Shepard arrived in 2016, there was no more room for Cruz. The team announced Monday they have released the team’s former star wideout.

Cruz’s departure saves the team nearly $10 million against the salary cap. That’s too much money for a player with just 39 catches for 586 yards and a TD. But the Patterson, New Jersey native was effective when targeted averaging 15 yards per catch in 2016.

Cruz showed he can still get behind defenders and further he gets from his injuries, he’ll get even better. And most importantly, he still believes he has gas left in the tank.

He told the media per NFL.com, “I think I have a lot of good football left ahead of me,” Cruz said in a statement. “I think there is still a lot of miles left on this body. I’ll definitely be searching and looking for work as the time comes.”

When that time comes for Cruz, that search needs to be somewhere on the west coast. The Oakland Raiders can use a slot receiver as Seth Roberts drops too many passes. The San Francisco 49ers could also use some help at WR for whoever the QB is.

Then there’s the Los Angeles Rams, who need to give QB Jared Goff all the help he can get. His playmaking, charisma and salsa dancing could make him the toast of the town in LA. Still in L.A. the Philip Rivers Chargers can use him with the injury to Keenan Allen.
