2017 NFL Mock Draft: Veteran QBs Affect the Top
The 2017 NFL Draft isn’t going to be the best place to get a quarterback. So NFL teams are jockeying for position to get one before the draft.
Jimmy Garoppolo is among the quarterbacks we are hearing a lot about this offseason. The Patriots started off asking for at least a first round pick for him. But it doesn’t like that’s going to happen as teams value their first-round draft picks.
Plus there are other veterans out there that are soon to be free agents. It looks like the Dallas Cowboys are going to cut Tony Romo this offseason. And the Buffalo Bills look like they’d rather cut Tyrod Taylor than give him $31. 5 million this year.
So these quarterback-needy teams at the top of the draft have options. They at least have more options than either trading for Garoppolo or reaching for one in this bad class. The QB class of 2018 is expected to be a great one so they can even bring in a stop-gap until then.
The Patriots are now saying they’re not going to trade Garoppolo but don’t believe that. He’s entering the last year of his contract and the Patriots can’t franchise him. The veteran QBs are going to affect the top of the draft in a big way too.
