TCU’s Josh Carraway is an undersized but explosive defensive edge prospect capable of generating pressure on the quarterback.

Josh Carraway features an explosive burst and closing speed which make him a major pass-rushing threat. He combines those traits with good balance, quick hands and good snap awareness. Carraway has all the skills evaluators look for in a speed rusher.

His most effective route to the quarterback is exploding off the line and bending around the edge. He has the balance to dip his should and get underneath the offensive tackle. The combination of his quickness and low pad level make it tough to get hands on his frame.

Carraway is also athletic enough to change direction and counter to the inside. However, this isn’t something he uses on a regular basis.

In fact, Carraway is a one-dimensional pass rusher who relies on his speed to generate pressure. This is one of the reasons why he’s looking at beginning his career as a situation pass rusher. The other reason is the fact he struggles to hold up against the run.

He lacks the bulk and overall strength to work at the line of scrimmage. Carraway will need to play outside linebacker in the NFL. This transition will take time as he has limited experience dropping in coverage or working off the ball.

Carraway will also need to improve his ability to track the football and pursue. However, his effort on the field shows optimism that he can adjust.

The success of the early part of his career will depend on his ability to contribute on special teams and as a situational pass rusher.
