The Atlanta Falcons claimed the NFC South crown in 2016. Now every other team in the division is clipping at their wings. Here is a list of free agents who will impact the division.

List In order of 2016 NFC South standings

1. player. 44. . Nose Tackle. Atlanta Falcons. Dontari Poe

The Atlanta Falcons made huge strides in the NFC South last season en route to nearly winning the Super Bowl.  But while quarterback Matt Ryan and the offense emerged as one of the best in the NFL, the Falcons defense was still a work in progress.

However, the Falcons front seven is not without talent to work with.  Defensive end Vic Beasley made a huge jump in his second season, leading the league with 15.5 sacks.  Middle linebacker Deion Jones showed tremendous potential in his rookie season.

But the Atlanta Falcons needed to add more help up front during the off-season and signed nose tackle Dontari Poe as a free agent.  They ranked 17th in the league against the run and 25th overall in total defense.

Poe is the kind of big body the Atlanta Falcons have been missing on the defensive line.  He will give them the presence in the middle to help them improve against the run.  He can also occupy multiple offensive linemen to free up Beasley and Jones.

The Atlanta Falcons took the NFC South with an 11-5 record and to win it this season they’ll likely need to improve on that record.  Dontari Poe gives them something they lacked last season.

We know the Atlanta Falcons offense will be good again but by shoring up their weaknesses on defense the Falcons as a team might be even better in 2017.
