Jimmy Smith Will Face Character Questions At Combine

Colorado CB, Jimmy Smith is ascending up draft boards in rapid fashion. Some regard him as the third best cornerback, behind LSU’s Patrick Peterson and Nebraska’s Prince Amukamara. Many fans are anticipating Smith’s performance at the combine, but coaches are anticipating the interview process with Smith.

Back in December 2010, the Denver Post interviewed Smith, and some character concerns came to light. Smith has two minor-in-possession charges on his record. Here’s what he had to say about them:

"“I’ll tell them I was young,” he said. “I was 17 coming into college and in a new place. And the things I was doing, I didn’t think I was necessarily doing anything wrong. I was in college.”"

That’s the extent of Smith’s character concerns. The charges aren’t major, but coaches will delve in deep and see if there are any other skeletons that lie in his closet. If all else checks out, Smith will enjoy being a day one selection in April.
