NFL Combine: Christian Ponder Reverses Decision, Decides To Throw

Blaine Gabbert decided to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine some days ago. It makes sense, he is regarded as the top quarterback prospect. Originally, Florida State QB, Christian Ponder was set to join him on the sidelines. Today, Ponder informed the media that he will indeed throw at the Combine. This is excellent news for quarterback needy teams. With Gabbert’s decision, Ponder saw an opportunity to shine, and will attempt to capitalize on it.

We previously believed he was not throwing because of prior injuries to his throwing shoulder and elbow. He has been medically cleared and MRI’s are 100% clean. Ponder spoke to the media and noted his competitive spirit, as another reason for the change of heart.

I like the tools that Ponder possesses. It will be interesting to see if the decision to throw will pay off. Can he improve his draft stock with a good showing? We’ll have to stay tuned. Remember, NFL Network has live coverage of the NFL Scouting Combine, all week.
