Alabama WR, Julio Jones stole the show and had an amazing day at the NFL Scouting Combine. He put up some extremely impressive numbers. What was even more impressive, was the fact that his numbers completely eclipsed Georgia WR, A.J. Green. Because of game tape, most went into the combine expecting Green to run a sub 4.4, vert at least 36″ , and broad jump at least 10’5″. Instead, it was Jones who surpassed those numbers, and did so easily.
After ripping off a 4.39 forty-yard dash, 38.5″ vertical, and 11’3″ broad jump, Jones may have improved his stock enough to be considered a top 10 pick in the Draft. Most draft analyst, including myself have him slotted to the St. Louis Rams at #14, but he may not be there now.
Combine numbers can be deceiving. It’s good practice to take them with a grain of salt, and not let them alter your opinion too much. Jones’s performance only alters mines a tad bit. I’ve always thought of Jones as explosive, but now I think of him as extremely explosive. People have always asked me to compare collegiate players to pro players, in order to give them a better understanding of their talents. Try this one out for size, Julio Jones equals a young Terrell Owens. I love his physicality, power, suddenness, and size. He will make an immediate impact in the NFL.
