Even though I understand what the players are fighting for during the NFL lockout, I fear that the final resolution will have a negative impact on fans across the league.

Typically speaking, players in professional sports leagues can get more money one of two ways. The first is by making teams pay out more (i.e. raising the salary cap or minimum salaries). The second is by creating more of a free market system by bringing players to free agency sooner and more often, thus creating a bidding war for their services. Based on current reports, the end of the NFL lockout will feature both of these by creating a “true salary” threshold that all teams must meet, and a restriction on the length of most rookie contracts. This is great for the players, much less so for fans.
