We Can All Learn From the Brian Stow Incident

Even though this is a football website, I wanted to touch on something that happened at a baseball game because it affects fans of all sports. On Opening Day, Brian Stow was attacked just outside of Dodger Stadium and beaten, suffering severe injuries that he still has not recovered from. Why? By all accounts, because he was a San Francisco Giants fan and was wearing their jersey.

Obviously, I can’t talk about specifics of what happened to Mr. Stow because I wasn’t there. However, I’ve attended enough sporting events to have witnessed similar physical attacks as well as countless episodes of verbal abuse. In fact, as much as it embarrasses me to say it, I’ve been involved in a few of them as well.
