The Badgers finished the 2010 season only 4 yards shy (John Clay – 1,012 yards, James White 1,052 yards – and Montee Ball 996 yards) of joining Nevada as the only major college football programs in the Country to ever have three 1,000 yard rushers in the same season (Vai Taua – 1,345 yards, Colin Kaepernick – 1,183 yards and Luke Lippincott – 1,034 yards).

The once mighty and Big Ten perennial powerhouse Ohio State cannot hold a candle to the feisty and ever improving Badgers.

Over the past 15 years in 192 games the Badgers have had 149 hundred yard rushers.

On the other hand, from 1996-2010, Ohio State has only managed 98 hundred yard rushers in 189 games.

The Badgers hit the century mark in 77.6% (149 times) of the 192 games they played from 1996 through 2010. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes managed to hit the 100 mark in just 51.9% of their 189 games.

Over the past 15 years the Badgers have had 28 games where one of their running backs has cracked 200 yards rushing in a game.

During this same period of time the Ohio State Buckeyes have only managed 200 yards rushing in 4 games.

Ohio State’s number one running back over the last 15 years was Chris “Beanie” Wells, who totaled 3,382 yards and 30 rushing touchdowns. The Badgers meanwhile had to settle for the likes of Ron “Great” Dayne and his NCAA record 7,125 rushing yards and measly 71 rush TDs. But wait, there’s more. The Badgers actually had three other running backs that rushed for more yards in the past 15 years than the Buckeye’s Beanie Wells. Those running backs were: Anthony Davis 4,676 yards and 42 rushing touchdowns, P.J. Hill 3,942 yards and 42 rushing touchdowns, and John Clay 3,413 yards and 41 rushing touchdowns.

Some amazing numbers for a school once dubbed the worst 5-0 team in the country. I refer to 1977 when the Badgers started the season 5-0 and went on to prove all of the media experts right by promptly losing every remaining game on their schedule and finishing the season 5-6.

Bucky Badger, true to his name, never gave up and went on to become one of major college football’s current powers. Wisconsin has won three Rose Bowls and gone 9-4 overall in topflight bowl games over the past 15 seasons and is a year in and year out top 25 school.

Badgers 100 Rush Yards Per Game, Big Ten not so much!
