Right off the bat in week 1 we saw a Top 10 school in TCU lose to the Baylor Bears 50-48. As the year goes on we will see that this Baylor team really

didn’t play above their heads and maybe the Horned Frogs lost too many players to graduation and the NFL. No sooner than TCU went down the Auburn Tigers had to claw their way back against a perennial sub 500 team in Utah State, beating the Aggies 42-38 by scoring a TD in the last 30 seconds. The USC Trojans followed Auburn by barely digging out of the hole they were in against the Minnesota Gophers by hanging on for a 19-17 win.

Less of an upset but unexpected by most experts was Notre Dame’s 23-20 loss to the South Florida Bulls. The Fighting Irish moved up and down the field but insisted on giving away the ball whenever they could. The Beavers of Oregon State couldn’t believe that they were not only got stung but were allergic to the Division II Sacramento State Hornets losing 29-28.

Can it get any better than this? The Richmond Spiders went to the ACC and spun their magic web around Duke for a 23-21 victory. Eastern Kentucky met the Kansas State Wildcats and the Colonels came away with a surprising and hard fought 10-7 win. Washington met another Eastern school, Eastern Washington, and the Eagles gave the Huskies all they could handle but came up just short losing 30-27.

The Pac-12 had a first week that they hope will not repeat itself very soon if ever. New Pac-12 member Colorado lost to a non-BCS school Hawaii. The Warriors had an easy time with the Buffaloes winning 34-17. Unranked Maryland took it to the scandal ridden Miami Hurricanes beating them 32-24, despite all the criticism of the Terrapins uniforms.

Rounding out a great week of college football, we watched two current SEC powers go down the drain to a Mountain West School and a former Mountain West School and now an Independent. We’re talking Boise State and BYU. The Broncos of Boise took the SEC and Georgia to the proverbial woodshed and put an old fashioned whooping on the Bulldogs beating them 35-21. This was followed up by the Brigham Young Cougars showing SEC wannabe Ole Mississippi that whether in the WAC, Mountain West or as an Independent the Cougars were a force to be reckoned with. BYU came from behind to post a 14-13 win against the Rebels.

Oh yeah, LSU Tigers stomped the once again overrated Oregon Ducks 40-27.

This week’s games to watch for great play and upsets galore will be:

1. Arizona Wildcats being schooled by the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

2. Arizona State Sun Devils having the lights put out on them by the Missouri Tigers. Tigers win.

3. Wisconsin Badgers just crushing the Beavers of Oregon State. Wisconsin runs and runs and runs and runs.

4. Auburn wishing Cam Newton was still there when they play Mississippi State. Mississippi State makes Auburn 1-1.

5. Rutgers Scarlet Knights will be looking to see if the Tar Heels of North Carolina are for real or not. Rutgers topples North Carolina.

6. Air Force picked the wrong week to have TCU on their schedule and will pay for it. TCU rolls.

7. California Golden Bears may get stomped by a Colorado Buffalo. Colorado gets on track.

8. The Hokies of Virginia Tech will find out if they are for real against the East Carolina Pirates. Virginia Tech pulls it out.

9. Nevada may very well hand Oregon its second straight loss if they have replaced graduating seniors and NFL bound players. Oregon loses again.

10. Alabama will find out if they are for real against the Nittany Lions of Penn State. Penn State Wins.

11. Hawaii will make it 2-0 by beating another Pac-12 team, Washington Huskies.

12. South Carolina will feel the wrath of the Georgia Bulldogs.

13. Northern Illinois may surprise the Kansas Jayhawks, even on the road.

14. The Cincinnati Bearcats will not show any respect to Tennessee.

15. Brigham Young will pull off another stunning win against Texas.

16. Utah will lower the USC Trojans another notch.

17. Notre Dame should right their ship against the Wolverines and their only weapon Denard Robinson.

Lots of games, lots of football, lots of fun!
