Tim Tebow Versus Good and Evil or Heaven Help Us!
By Editorial Staff
Over the first 9 starts of his career Tim Tebow has amassed numbers that are statistically the equal or superior to those of Hall of Fame Quarterback Steve Young and another Quarterback that still can’t pass, after 9 seasons in the NFL, Michael Vick.
When you compare Tim Tebow’s statistics from his first 9 NFL starts with the Good (Steve Young) and the Evil (Michael Vick) you get a pretty good insight into how Tebow stacks up against the Hall of Fame and the Hall of Shame.
Steve Young had a starting QB record of 2 wins and 7 losses over his first 9 starts or just a 22.2% winning percentage. He completed just 50.7% of his passes (113 completions out of 223 pass attempts) for 1,447 yards and only 5 touchdowns with 9 interceptions.
Michael Vick had a starting QB record of 5 wins and 4 losses over his first 9 starts. That is a 55.6% winning percentage. He completed just 55.7% of his passes (112 completions out of 201 pass attempts) for 1,303 yards and only 5 touchdowns with 2 interceptions.
Tim Tebow has completed just 47.2% of his passes (101 completions out of 214 pass attempts) for 1,424 yards with 11 touchdowns and 4 interceptions but he has a 66.7% winning percentage on 6 wins and only 3 losses as a starting NFL Quarterback. That equates to a 10-6 or 11-5 record over the course of a full season and most probably a spot in the playoffs for a Quarterback that can’t play Quarterback. How impressive is that?
Since all three of these Quarterbacks are skilled runners let’s compare these stats as well.
Steve Young, over his first 9 starts, rushed 70 times for 409 yards (5.8 yards per carry) and 4 touchdowns.
Michael Vick, over his first 9 starts, rushed 56 times for 413 yards (7.4 yards per carry) and 4 touchdowns.
Tim Tebow, over his first 9 starts, has rushed 102 times for 617 yards (6.0 yards per carry) and 5 touchdowns.
So what does this say about everyone that is writing off Tim Tebow after just 9 NFL starts?
What it says is that they don’t know what they’re talking about!
What if Steve Young were written off after just 9 starts? You say, but he wasn’t. And, neither should Tim Tebow be written off at this stage of his NFL career.
Michael Vick after 9 seasons in the NFL has a 49-37-1 record, a 56.3% winning percentage, as a starter. Vick has been to zero Super Bowls and as a starting Quarterback has a playoff record of 2-4 on 79 completions out of 141 attempts (56.0% completion percentage) for 977 yards, 5 touchdown passes, 4 interceptions, 6.93 yards per attempt and a Quarterback rating of 77.6. Vick added to his passing numbers with 271 yards on 37 carries (7.32 yards per carry) and 1 rushing TD.
Steve Young after 15 seasons in the NFL had a 94-49-0 record, a 65.7% winning percentage, as a starter. Young went to 2 Super Bowls and won both of them and as a starting Quarterback has a playoff record of 8-6 on 292 completions out of 471 attempts (62.0 % completion percentage) for 3,326 yards, 20 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions, 7.06 yards per attempt and a Quarterback rating of 85.8. Young added to his passing numbers with 594 yards on 96 carries (6.19 yards per carry) and 8 rushing TDs.
Tim Tebow’s career numbers are as yet to be determined.
So where does Tim Tebow fit in? I think that story is yet to be written and heaven really isn’t helping us but it is helping him!
