Iowa Running Back Marcus Coker Released From Football Scholarship

Iowa running back Marcus Coker has been released from his scholarship and will not enroll in the Spring semester, the University announced Tuesday.

Coker was suspended for the Insight Bowl against Oklahoma after a season in which he rushed for 1,384 yards and 15 touchdowns, numbers that were only eclipsed in the Big Ten by Heisman Trophy candidate Montee Ball at Wisconsin.

Coker is a powerful back who fit Iowa’s offense perfectly, but he obviously has some issues off the field that need to be taken care of, whether it’s his grades or personal issues remain unknown.

At this point, it’s not known whether or not Coker will try to latch on at another school closer to his home in Maryland and play football again.
