The UCLA Bruins Football Team Be Trippin’

The UCLA Bruins are tripping, yo. Yesterday the Bruins hired former Jets strength and conditoning coach Sal Alosi to become their new strength and conditioning coach.

Straight out of the files of “oh, yeah, I remember that guy” Alosi’s news isn’t earth shattering by any means, but just a reminder of the circus act that has been the Jets franchise since Rex Ryan was handed the keys to the franchise. The Alosi incident was an example of the Jets braggadocio style at its worst. Even though from the outside it would seem like teams would love to play with Rex Ryan, it’s an act that may have worn thin. Despite what you would believe to be a coach that would back his players and staff to the end, there has been a lot of turmoil for the Jets and the Alsoi incident should have been a sign of what might be to come.

After “Trip gate” Rex Ryan came out and said that he had no idea the team was doing this on the sideline, and then instead of taking blame the Jets could only point out that they believed the Patriots were building similar walls in New England.

(something he has repeated too many times…which makes him A) the biggest liar out there or B) the most incompetent coach. He also used this “I don’t know what’s going on with the Holmes benching example, or I don’t know why Sanchez is throwing the ball so much. Come on man you’re the head coach. That’s YOUR Job).

and forced Alsoi to stand in front of the oncoming bus that eventually cost him his job.

I’m glad that UCLA has given him another chance. Yes it was the dumbest thing you could ever do a sideline so hopefully he won’t be on the sideline much at UCLA, but I thought he got the raw end of the deal with the Jets because the cynic in me does not believe for a second that he wasn’t instructed to stand there as part of a wall.

It’s not like the Bruins couldn’t use a good strength coach (which was apparently his reputation before that incident) they have some players who need to hit the weight room without losing their speed, especially at the running back position.

Another player that could benefit from a great conditioning coach is DE Datone Jones who has loads of potential, but hasn’t yet put it together.

Here’s to hoping this is the last time we see Sal Alosi’s name and that he can stay out of the headlines and do his part in making a bright future for some of the talented Bruins.
