Kendall Wright Might be the #1 WR on Some NFL Teams Boards

Today Tony Pauline of draftinsider.net reported some interesting information. Baylor WR Kendall Wright could be the #1 wide receiver prospect in this draft class on some N.F.L. teams’ boards even over Justin Blackmon.

Earlier this week we were alerted that several teams, including one NFC team in the playoffs this weekend, grade Wright as the top wide out in the draft.  After several conversations with scouts and league insiders we found out this is not an anomaly- many decision makers rate Kendall Wright higher than his Big 12 counterpart.

When teams look at Wright’s film they see the entire receiver package; great speed, quickness, acceleration and more than anything else- tremendous hands.  He’s graded as a terrific route runner with barely any stiffness in his game and a prospect that understands the position. Wright’s ability to outrun defenders down the field and beat them in midair for the difficult reception is only surpassed by the consistent separation he gets from opponents in underneath coverage.

This is very surprising for me as of right now Kendall Wright is my number four ovreall wide receiver and just edges out Rutgers WR Mohamed Sanu. The biggest intial knock on Wright is going to be his size, very few first round WR picks are players who are under 6′ tall as Wright is, I also think that Wright does not possess the same kind of timed speed as DeSean Jackson, Darrius Heywary Bey type. And I’ve always thought of Wright as more of a dynamic complement #2 WR, so it’s intereting to see that there are teams out there who would take him ahead of Blackmon.

Pauline notes that one of the 4 N.F.C. Teams that are playing as Wright graded higher than Blackmon which should indicate that were he available when this team picks in the mid twenties he’d have to be considered a lock to go there? Even though the Saints, Packers, and 49ers have talented WR corps how could you pass on him if you thought he was a top 10 prospect?

Thoughts?
