Big Board Peek: Wes Bunting David DeCastro and Michael Brockers Earn High Praise

I’ve decided that every once in awhile I’ll look at another big Board on the web and higlight some of the interesting players. Though I will say that Big Board Peek is a really rough working title and I’ll come up with something much better.

The purpose of this is just to see how other sites few prospects, it’s nice to give the readers of NFLmocks and with the first pick a comprehensive overview and not just our opinions.

First I should mention that Bunting’s big board is based on a ranking system that values all positions at the same level. What I mean is that every player is giving a grade between 1-10 regardless of position so if a FB earns a 8.2 (high marks) he’ll be very high on the big board though Bunting clearly doesn’t believe a Full back should be drafted in the first round.

The Full Big Board is here

The first two names that jump out to me are

Stanford G David DeCastro all the way at number four and then directly after him is Redshirt sophomore from LSU Michael Brockers at # 5. Both are ahead of Matt Kalil who is routinely seen as a top three or four prospect. I’m not surprised DeCastro is that high because he’s considered almost a once in a generation type of guard prospect who does everything well and is as safe as a pick as there is, he though only plays guard which will hurt his actual draft value.

I’m surprised to see Brockers so high at five because he’s still a bit raw, but he has a world of ability. Bunting summaries Brockers:

Impression: He might be a little raw and could have used some more work at the college level. However, he’s an NFL talent with “plus” upside but can also come in and play vs. the run at a high level right away. Should get looks at both the three and five-technique spots and in my mind has the ability to become one of the better defensive lineman in the NFL down the line.

Scrolling down not much further we see another couple of surprise appearances when Orson Chalres makes it all the way up to #11 which is about 35 spots lower than he might be on our next big board release. Charles isn’t much of a blocker, but is a gifted athlete.

Next up Bunting follows the latest trend (though I know it’s independently because Bunting isn’t afraid to be a bit controversial) with WR Kendall Wright at 12 followed by Safety Mark Barron at 13.

Barron is a player that I’ve become more and more appreciative for my favorite team the New York Giants late in round one.

In the top 32 the biggest surprise is the apperance of Midwestern State OG Amimi Silatolu, a player that has been considered a mid round pick (I don’t watch many Midwestern State games! to object to that). It’ll be interesting to follow him as this process continues.

I always enjoy checking out Bunting’s work because it’s different. Check it out and let me know what you think.
