New York Giants TE Jake Ballard, Travis Beckum Injure Knees In Superbowl Victory
The Superbowl Victory came at a price for the New York Giants. Their top tight tight ends Travis Beckum and Jake Ballard injuried their knees in the vicotry. Ballard tore a meniscus, and Travis Beckum tore his A.C.L. Tight end was a possible position of need already, but now might be a direction they really look for in the N.F.L. draft. Who might they look at?
I think with where the Giants are picking Tight End is a great possibility in the first round with three players being mocked into the first round on occassion. Those players are TE Dwayne Allen, TE Coby Fleener, and TE Orson Charles.
The best tight end on my personal big board is Dwayne Allen.
Allen is a Chris Cooley type of Tight End a man who can line up in the backfield, split out wide, or play a more traditional tight end. Allen has pretty good size at 6’4 255 pounds and plus athleticism. Allen has improved a lot during his time at Clemson. The Tigers use Allen all over the field and he does a really good job blocking in space, but can improve his blocking on the line a bit against N.F.L. defefnsive ends. Allen does a good job in his routes and has soft hands, but may not have elite athletic ability, though he can create some yards after the catch. Allen fits the mold of what the Giants look for in Tight Ends as a pretty good blocker and receiver combo tight end. Perhaps the best combo Tight End since Brandon Pettigrew. Allen is an interesting possibility at the end of round one.
TE Orson Charles
Charles is extremely athletic which will appeal to the Giants. He is however undersized and needs to improve his blocking. Charles could be for the Giants what they drafted Travis Beckum to be, if he can learn to block more that is. Charles is a potential match-up nightmare in a league where those are too few and far.
Coby Fleener
Fleener is a big target listed at 6’6 244 pounds. Fleener was Andrew Lucks best draft-eligible receiver option in the 2011 College football season. Fleener will have to show a lot of athletic ability to get drafted in he first round at the combine. What teams will love is that he has a huge target radius and that he has the body frame to add more weight without losing athleticism.
I think that as of today Allen most fits what the Giants look for at tight end but Charles and Fleener have more upside and the Giants love their upside
