2012 NFL Mock Draft Cleveland Browns 7 Rounds

facebooktwitterreddit

This Cleveland Browns 2012 NFL Mock draft focuses on adding talent to both sides of the ball. After missing out on Robert Griffin III because they were playing chicken with their draft picks. They now need a terrific 2012 draft class to help out Colt McCoy. McCoy is a guy might be able to win in the N.F.L. with enough surrounding talent, but the Browns aren’t there yet. Hopefully the Browns will use their extra first round pick to continue their solid rebuilding effort.

1st round pick 4: Morris Claiborne, CB, LSU

The three options here are Morris Claiborne, Trent Richardson, and Ryan Tannehill. Browns beat writers don’t seem to think the team will take Richardson. They also seem willing to move forward with Colt McCoy, which makes this pick Morris Claiborne. Claiborne is an enticing pick. If the Browns can move forward with a defensive secondary of Joe Haden and Morris Claiborne that is potentially the best cornerback duo in the entire league next year.

1st round pick 22: Kendall Wright, WR, Baylor

I think the Browns have to look offense here if they take a cornerback at number four. I don’t think that pick has to be a running back, or even a WR, just offense. A RT makes sense, a WR makes sense, and a running back would also make sense. Running back has the least positional value and separation among the second best running back and the fifth while the WR drop off could be huge after Wright.  Wright showed off the speed at his proday that people thought he had all along, but he’s still not DeSean Jackson type of game-breaker and I think he’s a fringe first round guy, not a top 20 pick as people close to the league think he will be in 2012.

2nd round: David Wilson, RB, Va Tech

Here’s where the Browns can get great value on a running back they just have to decide which one they like. I think that LaMichael James, Doug Martin (maybe), Wilson, and Lamar Miller are all likely to be available here. I went with Wilson because even though he runs a little too much east-west he is built well and could carry a lot of the load.

3rd Round: Sean Spence, LB, Miami Hurricanes

I’m not a huge fan of the Browns Linebacker corps. I think a pass rusher falls here like Cam Johnson that pick makes more sense. A lot of sense actually. But Sean Spence’s biggest knock his is size and he didn’t showcase a lot of speed, speed people thought he had at the combine, but he flies on the film. Russ Lande has had him in the first round in mock drafts during this off-season so he would be considered pretty good value here. The league is looking for guys who can run and cover.

4th round: Ladarius Green, TE, Louisiana Lafyette

Browns fans disagree with me, but the Tight ends on the Browns are nothing special. Young quarterbacks’ best friends are generally the tight ends, and the Browns don’t have that for McCoy. Green is a big target, but not a terrific inline blocker. He’s not a traditional TE, but he can play a pivotal role for a passing attack that is seriously lacking.

4th round-from Atlanta- Matt Mcants, T, UAB

Mcants is a developmental tackle prospect, even though he’s considered more of a pass blocking LT, I think he could fit in with a quick passing game like the Browns want to run on the right side, he’s certainly not unseating Joe Thomas at LT.

5th round: B.J. Coleman Tennessee Chattanooga

Holmgren has a reputation of taking guys late in the draft and developing them. Coleman has drawn comparisons to Peyton Manning with his mannerisms on the field (not his talent on the field) and is considered a terrific developmental quarterback prospect.

6th round: Aaron Henry, S, Wisconsin

Henry has a lot of physical ability, but is a little inconsistent. He’s a good pick here. He’s one of the few guys in this safety draft class I think has the ability to eventually start at safety.

7th round:  Bryce Brown, CB, Kansas State

Bryce Brown is a guy who’s bounced around because of issues that do not deal with football, but was the former number one player in the nation in high school. He went to play at Tennessee but decided to leave the program. At his pro day he weighed nearly 225 pounds and ran a sub 4.4 forty yard dash. He oozes talent and is a potential steal here in the 7th round if he’s still available.
