Denver Broncos Showing Serious Interest in Arizona State QB Brock Osweiler

The Denver Broncos made a huge splash this offseason, signing the biggest free agent potentially ever in Peyton Manning. Now, they’ve set their sights on yet another quarterback.

According to a report from the Denver Post, the Broncos will host former Arizona State gunslinger Brock Osweiler for a private visit, and are sending their biggest contingent of scouts and decision makers to watch him throw. John Elway, John Fox, GM Brian Xanders, offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, and quarterbacks coach Adam Gase are all going to be conducting a private workout for Osweiler, indicating to me that the Broncos are more than just flirting with the idea of drafting Osweiler.

Almost just as important as signing Manning was for the Broncos is getting his successor and someone who can properly develop over the next few years while Manning hopefully brings titles to the Mile High City. The Broncos signed Caleb Hanie, whom John Elway said has “upside,” but no one buys that he is the quarterback of the future in Denver.

Osweiler could be just that.

The tallest QB in the draft is also–in my opinion–the most intriguing outside of the top three of Luck, RG3, and Tannehill. I think Brandon Weeden is not really an option for Denver, because he’ll have to play sooner rather than later, but Osweiler definitely is the type of guy who would benefit from sitting behind Peyton Manning for 3-4 years and taking over as the starter when he is 25 or 26. Plus, drafting him this year would allow the Broncos to focus on other areas for the next few years and not have to worry about the position really at all.

I think it’s really interesting that the Broncos allowed this info to be released. They haven’t released any other player visits, including this one which was originally leaked by Osweiler himself, and they are really keeping a low profile this offseason. What is up the Broncos’ sleeve? Does John Elway have another big move in mind for draft weekend?
