Former Notre Dame LB and 49ers Draftee Tears ACL

The first major injury has struck a rookie draft pick. Darius Fleming the linebacker out of Notre Dame tore his A.C.L. on the first day of 49ers mini-camp. Fleming was going to be counted on to provide depth at outside linebacker for the 49ers. The 49ers have good outside linebackers, but the only other outside linebackers currently on the roster are Aldon Smith, Ahmad Brooks, Parys Haralson, Cam Johnson, Kourtnei Brown, Eric Bakhtiari.

Cam Johnson seems like a lock to make the roster now. Johnson was considered a second round pick by some draftniks (a 3rd to 4th round pick for us) who lasted until the 7th round for the 49es.

Fleming’s tear was apparently only the ACL muscle so his recover might not be as daunting. Still this is a blow to the depth of the 49ers outside linebacker position and they might go searching for a veteran guy after some cuts are made .
