One of the nation’s top recruits in 2010, wide receiver Kyle Prater committed to USC and had high expectations for his football career. After redshirting and battling injuries, the Chicago native decided it would be best for him to be closer to home, so he transferred to Northwestern hoping not to have to sit out for a year, and now he won’t. The NCAA granted Prater a residence waiver, so he will be eligible to play in 2012 for the Wildcats, who have a pretty good looking wide receiver group.

The 6’5″ sophomore will have three years of eligibility remaining, and he is happy to have this whole situation cleared up:

“My family is very important to me,” Prater said in a news release, “so it means a lot for them to be nearby while I play football and earn my degree at Northwestern.”

“It’s been a long road so first and foremost I want to thank God for the chance to play football and do what I love,” Prater said. “I feel blessed for the opportunities I’ve found at Northwestern and am excited to get back on the field this fall. My family is very important to me so it means a lot for them to be nearby while I play football and earn my degree at Northwestern. I’m thankful for this decision from the NCAA and am ready to be on the field with my teammates when this season begins.”

Prater is certainly a name to watch, a kid with supreme talent who will participate in fall practices for the Wildcats starting next Monday.
