Round 3

63. Kansas City Chiefs – Tyler Wilson, QB Arkansas

The Chiefs made their move for Alex Smith, but Andy Reid has been a guy who likes to have a quarterback in development as well.  Wilson had a difficult year as a senior but he clearly has a ton of talent for a west coast system and he could really flourish under Reid.

64. Jacksonville Jaguars – Ryan Nassib, QB Syracuse

The fans of Blaine Gabbert seem to be down to friends and family in Jacksonville.  It is a shame how he was rushed when he clearly was not ready, but nevertheless, the Jags may opt to have another quarterback come in and develop to be the guy.  Nassib is a smart quarterback that has some good fundamentals and a base knowledge of the position but needs to improve his arm strength and make some adjustments to be the quarterback he can be in the league.  The Jags can afford to take their time developing him the right way.

65. Detroit Lions – Quinton Patton, WR Louisiana Tech

After Calvin Johnson, the Lions have little in terms of receiving threat at the wide receiver position.  They brought in Mike Thomas to be a slot type player and maybe Nate Burleson will contribute more, but Patton offers them a great value here as the most complete receiver in the draft.  Giving Stafford more weapons is never a bad idea.

66. Oakland Raiders – Brian Winters, OT Kent State

The Raiders look to continue improving their line play by adding a tackle that will move to guard in Brian Winters.  Winters is a tough, gritty player with the feet of a tackle who can be a big upgrade to the guard position.

67. Philadelphia Eagles – Stedman Bailey, WR West Virginia

The talent in this receiver class is going to present a ton of value for teams and this is no exception.  Bailey has been an incredibly productive receiver that comes in and fits what the Eagles want to do in Chip Kelly’s fast paced offense.

68. Cleveland Browns – Bacarri Rambo, S Georgia

So much is made of the hole at corner which does need to be filled, but the larger hole in Horton’s defense is at free safety.  They need a running mate with T.J. Ward that can protect them over the top when they are sending guys up the field and attacking.  Rambo has fantastic ball skills and could come in and contribute immediately.

69. Arizona Cardinals – Sio Moore, OLB Connecticut

The Cardinals have a tremendous defensive line and have gotten production out of their second level but have not really had a great pass rushing player from out there for quite a while.  Sio Moore is a talented player that can play at a number of different spots but he also has a familiarity for a coach like Arians as this is the type of guy the Steelers loved to draft and develop.

70. Tennessee Titans – D.J. Hayden, CB Houston

One of the biggest wildcards and best stories of the draft, Hayden comes in and competes for a spot on the outside but will at least be a nickel.  Hayden is still developing in terms of coverage but he is a willing, physical run defender and has the tools to get much better at the next level,

71. Buffalo Bills – Robert Alford, CB SELU

If the Bills want to add corner help, they might not be able to much more bang for their buck than if they select Alford.  Alford could slip due to the competition he played and his age, but he is a guy who should be able to come in and play immediately.  He is a fantastic man to man cover who is physical against the run, play inside or outside and can return kicks.  He could be a huge steal if he lasts this long.

72. New York Jets – Johnathan Franklin, RB UCLA

After addressing the offensive line, the Jets look to add a good running back that fits in their west coast system and Franklin is a great runner who can also catch passes and block.  He is incredible as a technical runner and is a clinic on tape.  If he can add bulk, he could end up the best back in the class.  And for Rex Ryan, he would really like to be able to run the football effectively.

73. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Travis Kelce, TE Cincinnati

If he lasts this long, it is a great value.  There are some off field concerns that need to be vetted, but he is a terrific fit for the Bucs and Greg Schiano.  The Bucs need a receiving threat at the position but he wants someone who will come in and block.  Kelce can do both and excels as a blocker, but has great upside as a pass catching threat.

74. San Francisco 49ers – John Jenkins, DT Georgia

The nose tackle position is in slight flux at the moment with the loss of Isaac Sapoaga to the Eagles, so they could look to add some beef in the middle.  Jenkins is a guy who could really tumble in this draft with some concerns over his weight, his work ethic, and dedication, but he has so much size and bulk in the middle.  His junior tape was actually better than his senior tape as weight hurt his balance and hurt his motor.  If he can keep it under control, he gives them some talent in the middle of their defense.

75. New Orleans Saints – Jamie Collins, DE/OLB Southern Miss

With their move to the 3-4, the Saints suddenly have a need to add to their pass rushers.  Collins has Olympic style measurables and he made a big leap from his junior to senior years.  If he can continue that progression, he could be an impact player on their defense and give them a big time pass rushing threat.

76. San Diego Chargers – Andre Ellington, RB Clemson

The Chargers have let a lot of talented running backs leave the past several years and are still looking to find a replenished group of their own.  When healthy, Mathews is a decent back.  Adding to what he brings, the Chargers bring in a home run threat in Ellington who has a Chris Johnson vibe.  If there is an open hole, he can take it all the way.

77. Miami Dolphins – Corey Lemonier, DE Auburn

The Dolphins have a solid pair of defensive ends but they could use a pure pass rushing threat to bring in on passing downs.  Lemonier needs to continue developing but his physical tools are impressive and he will make a few plays on his speed alone.  A nickel package with Jared Odrick inside and Lemonier and Cameron Wake coming off the edge could be nasty.

78. St. Louis Rams – Stepfan Taylor, RB Stanford

The Rams have a couple backs that could contribute in Daryl Richardson and Isaiah Pead but they could use a bigger back that can get tough yards like Taylor. Many have criticized him in shorts but on the field, he was a great back for Stanford who had plenty of long speed when he broke plays open.

79. Pittsburgh Steelers – Le’Veon Bell, RB Michigan State

The Steelers have had a tough time at the running back position in recent years, but Bell is a fantastic talent that just needs to accept what he is; a power back with agility.  If he can do that, he has the ability to be a fantastic back at the next level.  He is also a terrific receiving threat as he was a receiver before becoming a running back.

80. Dallas Cowboys – Tony Jefferson, S Oklahoma

One of the issues the Cowboys have been chasing for years has been a free safety that could make be a threat to make plays on the football.  Jefferson has incredible coverage abilities that start with his feet.  He can play man to man as well as thriving in zone with fantastic instincts.  The reason he does not go earlier is because of his issues with tackling.  If he can improve there, he could be a star and a huge steal.

81. New York Giants – Montori Hughes, DT Tennessee Martin
The Giants love to collect defensive line talent and Hughes played at a small school, but has some big time upside if developed properly.  The Giants love to have a rotation along the defensive line and are always looking to add talent up front.

82. Miami Dolphins – Christine Michael, RB Texas A&M

Because of the amount of picks they have and the way their roster is structured, the Dolphins are in a position where they can gamble on talent to complement Lamar Miller, Michael has a world of talent and is familiar with their offensive coordinator, Mike Sherman.

83. Minnesota Vikings – Brandon Williams, DT Missouri Southern State

The Vikings have been looking for a legitimate answer to the nose guard position since Pat Williams retired.  Brandon Williams is a good athlete for being nearly 340lbs and could continue their work to establish a great run defense against paired with Kevin Williams.

84. Cincinnati Bengals – Travis Frederick, C Wisconsin

The Bengals have a good offensive line, assuming they lock up Andre Smith, with the exception of center, which is a problem right now.  Frederick is a good fit in terms of the size and profile the Bengals like up front and could slide in next to his former teammate at Wisconsin, Kevin Zeitler.  Between this pick and grabbing Bernard, the Bengals have an imposing offensive line and running game that could push them over the top in the AFC North.

85. Washington Redskins – Jordan Poyer, CB Oregon State

Along with the safety position, the Redskins could use help at corner as well.  Poyer is soft against the run but is extremely competitive as a cover corner and has impressive ball skills.  He can play in the slot or on the outside and could be a nice asset for the Redskins with so many talented receivers in that division.

86. Indianapolis Colts – Trevardo Williams, DE/OLB Connecticut

The Colts made acquisition of Erik Walden in the offseason but they need more help on the outside in the form of depth and developing talent.  Williams is small but incredibly strong, fast, and plays with an incredible will.  He is an extremely talented pass rusher and could make an early impact.

87. Seattle Seahawks – Dallas Thomas, OT Tennessee

The situation at right tackle for the Seahawks is not ideal and Thomas could potentially contribute right away there but also provides depth at a few other spots on the line with experience on both sides of the line but the tools to play guard as well.

88. Green Bay Packers – Zaviar Gooden, OLB Missouri

The Packers could use some added athleticism to the inside linebacker position as well as someone who can contribute in coverage.  Gooden is a former safety that is a fantastic linebacker in coverage but has incredible speed and range and can fly all over the field to help them combat against mobile quarterbacks.

89. Houston Texans – Vance McDonald, TE Rice

In terms of measurables and potential, McDonald is off the charts.  He needs to continue his development but he could be an indefensible weapon if he can put it all together in the NFL.  He has the size and strength to block and the speed to stretch the field vertically.

90. Denver Broncos – Jon Bostic, ILB Florida

The Broncos defense is extremely impressive but they could use a more forceful presence in the middle.  Bostic gives them someone who can help them clamp down on the run so they can let all of those pass rushers loose on the quarterback.

91. New England Patriots – Aaron Dobson, WR Marshall

The Patriots like receivers with good measurables and Dobson has been impressive in that regard.  He is not all that different from a former receiver gamble they made in Taylor Price, but the Patriots hope this one goes better.  Dobson is an impressive vertical threat with speed and strength.  Chances are he is either going to make it or not and the answer will be clear quickly.

92. Atlanta Falcons – Logan Ryan, CB Rutgers

The Falcons continue bolstering the secondary by adding Ryan, who could play inside against the slot or outside as needed.  The combination of Trufant and Ryan along with what they already have could be enough to push them over the top.

93. San Francisco 49ers – Margus Hunt, DE SMU

Continuing to bolster their defense, the 49ers take the Eastern Bloc.  The freakish athlete, Hunt, is physically ridiculous but needs to improve his leverage desperately.  If he can do that, he becomes a dominant player as well as a weapon that can come in and block kicks.

94. Baltimore Ravens – David Bakhtiari, OT Colorado

The Ravens are looking for a long term answer at the left tackle position that allows them to keep Michael Oher on the right side.  Bakhtiari is a nice project tackle that can develop and play on either side, potentially developing into the long term solution.

95. Houston Texans – William Gholston, DE Michigan State

The Texans add some talented depth for their defensive line; Gholston has impressive physical tools and just needs some better technique and he could really be impressive, especially in a rotation with J.J. Watt and Antonio Smith.

96. Kansas City Chiefs – Ryan Swope, WR Texas A&M

The Chiefs have some questions to answer at wide receiver on the outside and could use help in the slot, so they opt to add a guy who can contribute in both spots.  Swope is a good, technical receiver who has a knack for making plays and has a Victor Cruz quality to him.

97. Tennessee Titans – Malliciah Goodman, DE Clemson

The Titans are happy with their starting defensive ends but they could use help in the rotation and add more options for their pass rush.  Goodman has incredibly long arms and great physical tools to develop but needs to improve his technique and instincts.  He has impressive movement skills and bend for someone his size and took off the latter part of his senior year.
