St. Louis Rams agree to terms with second round pick Lamarcus Joyner

The St. Louis Rams have come to terms with their second round pick Lamarcus Joyner, according to his agent.  Joyner was one of the more prominent members of the National Championship winning Florida State Seminoles this past season, having some compare him favorably to Tyrann Mathieu because of his production despite being undersized.

Joyner has been able to hold up physically and make plays in part because he plays with such reckless abandon with his body and is extremely aggresssive, which can be a double-edged sword.  He has been able to make plays and help in coverage at both corner and safety during his career in Tallahassee.  His best fit seemingly would be in nickel and that might be where he starts his NFL career, but given his draft slot, the Rams may hope for him to eventually be a starter.

Joyner has the athleticism, feet and hips to help in slot coverage while having the mentality to play the run, giving the Rams more of a ‘big nickel’ look, which would feature three safeties on the field with two corners as opposed to two safeties and three corners.  The Rams are hoping that with this draft, they can really put the finishing touches on a terrific defense, which has become the mark of the NFC West.
