The New York Jets have announced that rookie wide receiver Jalen Saunders was involved in a single car accident on hid way to Jets headquarters.  The accident will cause him to miss Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.  No further details have been announced to this point, but Saunders was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The former Oklahoma playmaker and fourth round pick was one of a number of receiving threats the Jets added to try to ease the burden placed on second year quarterback Geno Smith.  The Jets drafted three wide receivers in addition to signing former Denver Bronco Eric Decker as well as drafting tight end Jace Amaro.

Saunders is best suited to play a slot and left the Sooners on an impressive note as he had a fantastic game in the Sooners’ bowl victory over Alabama, where would be first round pick Ha’Sean Clinton-Dix and the rest of the Tide secondary struggled to cover Saunders.  He caught five passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns in his final performance with the Sooners.  Saunders is extremely undersized by NFL standards at 5’9″ and around 160lbs but he was arguably the best blocking receiver in college football last year, pound for pound.
