Bears Kyle Fuller’s 2 INTs help vault team to victory over 49ers

The Chicago Bears were able to come back and beat the San Francisco 49ers 28-20 as a result of 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.  Rookie cornerback Kyle Fuller was a huge reason the Bears were able to win the game as a result of two interceptions that set up a pair of touchdowns.  Fuller had two of the Bears three interceptions of Colin Kaepernick, who had four total turnovers in the game.  Fuller’s interceptions were huge for the Bears as they both occurred on the 49ers half of the field and the Bears offense was immediately able to capitalize with scores that sent the 49ers reeling late in the game.

The more impressive of the two interceptions was on a Kaepernick rollout to the left where he tried to hit what appeared to be an open tight end down the seam.  The sideline receiver had turned back on a comeback allowing Fuller to turn to face the line of scrimmage, so he was able to see the Kaepernick pass, step in the passing lane and intercept it.  Even on the replay, it was a play that looked like a good decision that was perhaps slightly late.  Fuller made a great play and did not look like a rookie as he moved into the passing lane to secure the interception.

Fuller was the second corner picked in the 2014 NFL Draft behind Justin Gilbert, but Fuller looks to be light years ahead of Gilbert in his transition to the NFL at this point.  Fuller was a far more complete corner in college, but had injury concerns.  When he was on the field at Virginia Tech, he was someone that could play man coverage, help in zone, and was not afraid to come up and be physical as a run defender.  Gilbert brought more impressive physical tools to the NFL, but Fuller looked far more ready to contribute.

His first big game as a pro allowed the Bears to avoid an 0-2 hole, win a big game on the road, and give them a little momentum as they get ready to play the New York Jets on the road.  The NFC North now sits with all four teams at 1-1.
