Bottom Line

Cooper will probably be the first receiver off the board in May and based on what he’s doing now, deservedly so. But I believe Montgomery has the most complete No. 1 receiver skill-set and is the best football player of this bunch. His numbers just didn’t show it because he didn’t have the type of quarterback that could help him out.

If there’s someone that played in the NFL to compare him to I would say that Montgomery was a modern-day Tim Brown. His ability to make a big play as a return man, out of the backfield, after the catch or deep down the field is of great value. And before Rich Gannon’s arrival in Oakland, Brown’s production suffered because he didn’t have the quarterbacks Jerry Rice, Cris Carter and Andre Reed had.

So Brown is still waiting to get into the Hall of Fame while the other three receivers have already been enshrined. And by the way things look now, Montgomery will still be waiting to get drafted long after the three youngster projected to go before him. And Montgomery can change games in so many more different ways than his peers so if he really goes in the second round or after, that’s a great value pick.
