System
Mariota won’t be able to start his career the way R.G. III did because the NFL has already seen and figured out R.G. III. Oregon’s 2,991 yards passing to 2,321 yards rushing so far this year tells you Oregon/Chip Kelly’s system depends heavily on that read option. In Philadelphia, the Eagles ran the ball well and Nick Foles threw bombs for days off of play-action with simplified.
Running back LaSean said he was better than Adrian Peterson last year but we don’t hear that anymore as his rushing average is down to 3.7 ypc. Foles was struggling and about to lose his starting job before he got hurt too because the riddle has been solved. So if Mariota ends up running the same system in the NFL, it’s not going to work because the NFL has seen all that before.
