A few days ago, it was reported by ESPN that Georgia Bulldogs running back Todd Gurley had successful knee surgery and began rehab. It’s no longer death to a running back to tear an ACL because of all the advancements in medicine and rehab we’ve made. Bulldogs head coach has already told the Atlanta Journal Constitution, “He’s doing real well.”  so he appears on his way back.

Obviously, how hard a person is willing to work and their genetics have everything to do with how well he comes back. And for Gurley to be so such an amazing player, he has to have the best of genetics be a hard worker at the same time. That’s how Minnesota Vikings superstar Adrian Peterson was able to come back in six months and almost break the single season rushing record.

If you listen to the people have been around both Peterson and Gurley, you’ll know there are key similarities between the two. Bulldogs inside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler weighed in on those similarities on onlineathens.com.

"Ekeler from Mark Weiszer:“I was there two years with him and that’s kind of who he reminds me of. Adrian Peterson was maybe the only player I’ve ever been around that could have gone straight from high school to the NFL. He was that special right when he got out and Todd’s got those same type of abilities and his work ethic is really, really, strong. He’s a tremendous talent and a great young man.”"

This was back in October, before there was any injury—Ekeler was only expressing the similarities he saw in the two already. So with such similarities being established already I think it’s safe to say that Gurley’s rehab process will be similar too. So if we project six months out for Gurley to be back, that puts us in the month of May, when the NFL Draft is.

And Gurley will be able to show that he’s already 100 percent back from his injury by then or sooner because he is younger. Then of course, Gurley will be poked and prodded to the max and when he checks out the decision will be made. A team at the end of the first round that needs only a running back to make a Super Bowl run could then take him.

He’s too special not to when he checks out medically!
