Before the season, Mississippi State Bulldogs quarterback Dak Prescott intended to enter the 2015 NFL Draft if he were projected into the first round. Now that we’re at the tail-end of the season and the scouting world has had a chance to see him play, he’s not projected to go in the first round and for good reason.
Prescott can be great in the NFL because he has so much upside but has to be more consistent with his fundamentals. He’s already going to have to adjust to the speed of the NFL and learn to read the exotic schemes that will be thrown at him. So he needs to go into the NFL as polished as possible and have a consistent base of fundamentals before he gets there.
The more things he has to learn, the longer it will take to learn and if it takes too long, that upside can get beat out of him. Yes, I mean physically with the bigger, stronger, faster players but I also mean mentally with the criticism he’ll take. So Prescott should take his time and develop a stronger foundation before going to the NFL too soon.
