Cardale Jones made a smart decision to stay in school today instead of entering the 2015 NFL Draft. He really shouldn’t have had to make an announcement but as usual, the media hypes players and makes bad suggestions for them. It’s a good thing the kid has a good head on his shoulders and was unaffected by the hype.

If he would have come out, it would have been on the strength of a National Championship campaign where he threw just 92 passes. As quality as they may have been, he only had three starts in college to complete 60 percent of his passes for 862 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions.

The talent is there for the red-shirt sophomore but no quarterback with three college starts is ready for the NFL. And of course, personnel people in the NFL are going to see that and he wouldn’t get picked very early. But if he stays at least one more year, he could very well end up getting pick in the Top-10 or even No. 1.

Jones is 6’5″, 250 pounds, athletic for his size and has the biggest arm I’ve seen in college since Jamarcus Russell. But the object for Jones is not to be Russell and as for from that as possible. So another year or two for Jones to work on fundamentals and gain experience is the best thing he can do.

Jones made a great decision!
