Round 5: John Miller

The Raiders have good depth at tackle but the need more depth at guard in case someone goes down there. Goodness forbid if someone goes down, Tony Bergstrom ends up having to play for an extended period of time. Nothing against him, but he’s a zone-blocking scheme type caught on a gap scheme team now.

So the Raiders should select John Miller in the fifth round as he is known as a mauler in the run game. The book on him is he has good power, plays with good leverage, he’s smart, and technically sound. He comes from a pro style offense too so his transition will be smoother and he could help right away, especially if the Raiders don’t get someone like Mike Iupati this offseason.

Only bad thing here is he may be playing his way out of the fifth round as he did well in the East-West Shrine game. Mike Mayock said of him on NFL.com, “He plays with great base and power in the run game. His upside for me is starting at guard in the NFL.”
