The Book on Ray

At 6’3″, 245 pounds, Ray is an athletic freak that has played 4-3 end but is sure to be move to 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL. He’s been clocked at 4.4 in the 40, recorded a 40-inch vertical leap, a 10-foot broad jump and an over-400-pound bench press. He has NFL bloodlines as his father, Wendell Ray, also played at Missouri then went in the fifth round to the Minnesota Vikings.

That rocket-like get-off on the snap is what young Ray is known for the most these days. Then they love the burst he continues around the corner with and his ability to make a tight turn. Being as fast as he is, the personnel world loves that he takes advantage of opposing tackles when weary of his speed by dipping back inside with a swim move.

What the personnel world doesn’t like so much about him is the way he plays against the run. They say you can run right at him and he doesn’t show the read-and-recognition awareness in the run game. They also say he struggles to disengage from blocks and they say he has only average striking power in his hands.
