Phillip Dorsett, receiver for the Miami Hurricanes, has come a long way since October 6, of 2012. On that night, on the first play from scrimmage, he blew past his guy then dropped what would have been a 72-yard touchdowns pass. Then later on the same drive, Dorsett got wide open again and dropped what would have been a 43-yard touchdown pass.
This was a prime-time game so that would end up being the scouting world’s first impression of Dorsett. He went on to make 58 catches in that, his sophomore year, for 842 and four touchdowns. But of course, all the scouting world would remember were the drops and that became his label.
It didn’t help that when he came back in 2013 to prove he was to be reckoned with, he tore and MCL. So then, he comes into his senior year with with a bad-hands label and questions about his knee. And in 2014, pegged as a 5th-round pick on most draft boards, Dorsett answered all questions with a good senior year.
Playing with a freshman quarterback, Dorsett managed 36 catches for 871 yards, 10 touchdowns and 24.2 yard average. And at Senior Bowl Week, he has created quite a buzz with his speed and quickness. He’s been cooking the nation’s top seniors and has pushed himself up draft boards.
