After his final collegiate regular season football game, Oregon Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota was the No. 1 NFL prospect. The Heisman Trophy winner had been that from start to finish this football season. Then suddenly, from the post season until now, Mariota started dropping on most of the boards I’ve seen.

His Rose Bowl game was on January 2 and his draft stock fell one spot each week up until now. The draft boards I’m seeing now have him at No. 4 overall as opposed to the No. 1 he sat on all season. There’s even been talk on NFL Network about him falling to No. 18 to the Kansas City Chiefs.

So how does a player drop when he’s no longer playing?

The evaluation takes place!

These NFL personnel people spend hours on each player to find out all the can about them. And most of the time, these players were what the NFL personnel people always thought they were. It’s just that the media falls in love with players and wants to elevate players they like.

And other times NFL personnel people play poker to protect their agenda, causing falls and rises among players.
