The Book on Scherff

At 6’5″, 320 pounds, the scouting world loves his size, upperbody strength and hand placement. They also like his knee bend, wide base and what they call his light feet. They especially like his drive blocking that starts with his hand punch that jolts defensive lineman already starting him going backward.

They also like the way he shifts his weight and gets the the second level with what they call an eagerness. Then, they like his strong hands to control defensive lineman when he’s pass-blocking. And they are impressed with his power and what CBSSports.com’s Dan Brugler says is his ability to “stop opponents in their tracks at times.”

What they don’t like is the tightness that he has in his hips and how he relies too much on his power. Another thing the noticed that they didn’t like is that he too often settles on his heels instead of the balls of his feet. That makes him susceptible to speed-rushers and counter-moves back inside as he often missteps.
