Bottom Line
This is a good class of running backs coming out this year and assuming he’ll be back healthy, I have Gurley at the top of it. But all I hear about these days when it comes to running backs after him is Gordon, and now Ameer Abdullah of Nebraska. But there’s a strong case that Coleman is better than Gordon and Abdullah.
Gordon led the country in rushing this year with 2,587 yards to Coleman’s 2,036, but they both had 7.5 yards per carry. I believe Coleman’s season was more impressive because he was all the Hoosiers had at 4-8. Plus he rushed for 100 yards against Michigan State’s No. 1 run defense, while Abdullah was held to 45 yards on 24 carries.
And against Ohio State, Gordon rushed for 76 yards on 26 carries while Coleman had 228 yards on 27 carries. He’s bigger, stronger and faster than both of those guys and for my money, he’s the fastest running back in the draft. But that speed is as far as the McFadden comparisons should go because he has more leg strength, vision and patience than McFadden.
