2015 NFL Draft Scouting Report: Ereck Flowers
Scouts’ Take
Strengths: Rob Rang and Dane Brugler of CBSSports.com have, “Shows quickness and balance getting to the second level when run blocking. Broad shoulders and a wide base to cover a large area in pass protections and drive defenders of the ball in the run game.”
Lance Zlerlein of NFL.com has, “Big, athletic frame carrying more than 320 pounds with ease. Ascending mauler in the run game. Bender who is low man off the snap and pops his hips into hop leverage defender at the point. Special foot quickness in pass protection. Able to mirror and 2-way pass-rushers and B-gap blitzers.”
Weaknesses: Rang and Brugler had of his weaknesses, “Can struggle against speed of undersized pass-rushers, allowing defensive ends to cross him inside and trip up running backs in pursuit. Tendency to be a beat late off the snap in loud road environment.”
Zlerlein had of his weaknesses, “Pass protection needs plenty of work. Footwork gets sloppy and undisciplined, causing base to narrow. Ducks head into contact and is a leaner in pass pro, creating balance problems. Doesn’t bring feet under him to sustain second level blocks. Knocked off balance by smaller pass-rushers due to poor balance.”
