My Take

Strengths: Played the 1-technique for a portion of the season but the some of his parts is equal to the whole of a 3-technique. That’s because the some of his parts includes an expolsive get-off on the snap that sometimes knocks opposing offensive lineman back. When lined up as a 3-technique, he is a penetrator that plays in his opposing team’s backfield.

He has good pass rushing moves including a spin-move and quick hands to neutralize opposing offensive linemen’s hands. When he decides to use it, he has excellent closing speed to chase down ball carriers and the quarterback. But at the same time, he’s a smart player so he’s not easy to fool on screens and draws.

Weaknesses: When a play runs away from him, he often dogs it instead of hustling in pursuit. That may be what contributes to him disappearing for long stretches in a game or in the season. Knocks linemen back occasionally with his get-off but doesn’t consistently own the line of scrimmage.

I agree with Brugler’s take on Bennett giving up too easily if he can’t beat his man right away and needing to work on taking on double-teams. I also agree with Zlerlein’s take on how he needs to develop counter-moves for when the first one doesn’t work. To me, Bennett has the talent but would be so much better if he had the determination.
