The running backs came in for 2015 NFL Scouting combine and weighed in today. The weigh-in portion of the combine is pretty important to NFL personnel world when it comes to running backs. They’ll see about catching the ball in drills but the NFL personnel world also measures if you’re an every-down back by your size.

Can you pass protect against the blitz?

Can you punch it in from near the goal line or pick up first-downs on 3rd-and-1?

Can you take the beating of 20-25 carries?

A running back’s weight will very often determine the role he plays on the team that he’s picked on. The bench-press will have a bunch to do with it too but big backs are the ones that get the carries in the physical NFL. Small bodies are very rarely able to withstand the rigors of constant ball carrying.
