What it Means for the Eagles
On NFL Network, LaDainian spoke of McCoy’s strong personality clashing with Kelly’s personality. He went on about how McCoy didn’t agree with Kelly’s approach of an easy practice on Friday and a hard one on Saturday before a Sunday game. So Kelly shipped him out and got himself an inside linebacker he can put alongside defensive star Mychal Kendricks.
Kelly had Alonzo at Oregon so he knows the drill with Kelly and will more than buy into what he’s doing. Kelly seems to be gutting the Eagles to bring in the kind of guys that will buy into his system. No matter how good system is, and we don’t know about Kelly’s yet, it won’t work if the players don’t buy in.
And when the star of the team doesn’t completely buy into what a coach is doing, he will influence others. So no matter how good a player is you have to get rid of him if he doesn’t completely buy in. But again, I have to say out of respect for Alonzo, that Kelly did get himself a good player for his defense.
