Ken Whisenhunt and the Titans

In the beginning of the offseason, all indications were Tennessee Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt was sticking with 2014 7th-round quarterback Zach Mettenberger for 2015. It was assumed by many that they would take defensive line prospect Leonard Williams. And with the Raiders having their quarterback, speculation began that Kelly was looking to trade with the Washington Redskins or New York Jets right behind them.

Then after Mariota had a bad pro day, he must have had an awesome private workout with the Titans. Word out of the owners meetings is that Whisenhunt now has interest in Mariota. ESPN reported that he said, “We still have more time with him to spend. We did a workout with him at Oregon and had a little private workout with him. He’s done a good job.

“A lot of people said, ‘He’s in the spread offense and he doesn’t have to do a lot,’ but that’s not true. He has to change the protections. He has to adjust his receivers. There’s a lot of things going on that he has to do before the ball is snapped. And then he has to go through his reads. I learned a lot about that from spending time with him.”

But having succeeded with Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner, is Mariota his type?
