Miami Hurricane’s Pro Day: Phillip Dorsett Kills it

With dozens of scouts on hand to see a little over a dozen NFL prospects, receiver Phillip Dorsett was the show stopper. I can’t say he stole the show because his speed was the main thing the scouts came to see. And Dorsett didn’t disappoint, running a 4.25-40, tying Breshad Perriman for the fastest among all draft prospects, combine and pro day.

He ran a 4.33 at the combine and prospects usually stay with a time that fast but not Dorsett. He came into this scouting season the proudest of his speed and wanted to show he was a sub-4.3 guy. But he didn’t just come to blaze, he improved his vertical leap by an inch, up to 38 inches.

Then he did what mattered, the positional drills, running crisp routes and showing good hands. Coming into this scouting season, he was looked and as a middle rounds prospect and the combine put him in the 2-3 range. Now, even with all the talent at receiver, he’s being projected as a late one, early two.

Among the other notable prospects, inside linebacker Denzell Perriman brought his 40-time down to 4.68 from 4.78 and running back Duke Johnson ran a 4.46, down from 4.54 at the combine. Tight end Clive Walford, defensive end Anthony Chickillo and offensive tackle Ereck Flowers were reported by NFL Network’s Mike Mayock as impressive in position drills.

It sounds like a few prospects out of Miami really helped themselves today.

And Dorsett just might have messed around and ran himself into the first round.
