Sammy Watkins, the No. 4 overall pick in 2014, flashed his immense talent en route to a solid rookie season. He led the Bills with 65 catches for 982 yards and six touchdowns on 128 targets. However, he appeared to hit a rookie wall as Watkins had five touchdowns in the first half of the season and only one in the second half

As a matter of fact, he had only seven catches for 160 yards and one touchdown in his last three games. It turned out not to be the rookie wall but hip injury he sustained in a Week 13 win against the Cleveland Browns. The injury was serious enough for him to need the surgery he had shortly after his season ended.

Watkins is still on the mend from this surgery and he is questionable for the Bills’ offseason program. These offseason reps are very important for a wide receiver as young receiver’s often struggle with the cerebral part of the game. Reading the defense the same way the quarterback does is necessary for you to be a reliable target.

There is also the new offense coming with new head coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Greg Roman. It’s one thing to study the playbook and watch tape and what’s going on but another thing to do it on the run. Then there’s that chemistry you have to build with the quarterback, whoever that may be for the Bills.

Watkins is looking to make that jump from year one to two.

With all this doubt of his offseason, is he behind the eight-ball of making it?
