TheĀ 2015 NFL Draft prospects had a chance to show us how athletic they are at theĀ combine and pro days. AndĀ weāve gone back to look at moreĀ tape to confirm or deny who they are based on the results. So now, it is as easy a time as ever to pick out who the most pro readyĀ 2015 NFL draft prospects are.
So what makes a pro-readyĀ draft prospect?
Iām only dealing with who the playerĀ is on the fieldĀ because the organizations willĀ make those decisions.Ā This isnāt about upside either as upside and pro-ready are two different things altogether. ThisĀ also isnāt about intangibles because we wonāt know really know until they get in the NFL.
So I measure it by impact and production, ability, and understanding of how to play the game.
Impact and Production
The obvious way a prospect shows you he is ready for the NFL is dominating college football. Statistics are important but circumstances like having the bullās eye on your back are as well. AreĀ you unstoppable to the point of opponentsĀ game-planning for you, making things easier for yourĀ teammates?
Ability
The NFL is trying to weed out playersĀ thatĀ had great collegiate stats but lackedĀ the physical ability to do it in the NFL. They want to know how a prospect produced in college so they can project it to the NFL toĀ see how they can use the him. CanĀ a receiver separate because of his agility and-or speed or does a defensive lineman beat offensive linemen withĀ quickness, power or technique.
Understanding
Speaking of technique, technical skills are most important because the NFL is full of greatĀ athletes. Being a goodĀ football player comes more from understangĀ how to playĀ football than athleticism. Football I.Q., with Xs and OsĀ is everything too because Iāve seen the best athleteās flop because they didnātĀ understand the game.
