State of the Chargers:
The Chargers appeared to be tooling up to make a Super Bowl run in the beginning of the offseason. They brought in a couple of receivers, and kept offensive line intact while adding road-grader to it. They looked as if they were going to put a running game around quarterback Philip Rivers.
All they had to do was get either Todd Gurley or Melvin Gordon in the draft and they were set. The Chargers would have been able to hold on to a lead and they were going to be contenders. But suddenly, there’s talk of Philip Rivers not wanting to re-sign because he doesn’t want to go to Los Angeles.
And now there’s talk of the Chargers trading him to Tennessee Titans for the No. 2 pick to get Marcus Mariota. Mariota is three years away from making the Chargers relevant at best. So this situation is what dictates if the Chargers are close or if they’re blowing it up to rebuild it. If they keep Rivers and get a running back, I favor the Chargers to win the AFC West in 2015.
