Philadelphia Eagles Getting a Different Tim Tebow?

When the Philadelphia Eagles first signed Tim Tebow, many thought of it as a form of kicking tires. Everyone in the football universe knows head coach Chip Kelly needs a quarterback that can run to really make the offense work. Combine that with Tebow’s knowledge of the offense from his days at the University of Florida and there’s good reason to kick those tires.
I added myself in another article the Tebow is the one for this offense because he’s 6’2″, 240 pounds. He’s built like a linebacker so he would be able to take the punishment better than Robert Griffin III and Marcus Mariota. So the question now is are the Eagles just giving Tebow a shot because of the offense or did they see improvement in his throwing.
If he did improve his throwing, particularly the accuracy, he just may be able to do something. Tebow has been working with Tom House, Tom Brady’s personal quarterback coach, for the last two years. It’s one thing for House to say how much he improved but it made many wonder when Tebow wasn’t signed as soon as he worked out last month.
Word out of Eagles camp is that they wanted to try to trade third-stringer Matt Barkley before making the move. Now that the Eagles signed him, new vice president of player personnel Ed Marynowitz at a press conference on NFL.com some of the method behind the madness of Tebow’s signing.
He said, “We worked him out and we saw improvement from the last time we saw him, had exposure to him live when we played New England when they practice here,” Marynowitz said. “When we worked him out, we saw a great deal of improvement with him.”
It looks like everything House said a couple of days ago is accurate instead of just a bunch of hype. It has been discussed widely among the media just what kind of role he may play on the team. Things like extra point conversion specialist, some packages for him to just plain third string quarterback were discussed.
But if his throwing motion and accuracy hold up through the preseason, the Eagles could have a situation on their hands. Tebow had everything you wanted in a quarterback accept for throwing motion and accuracy. Plus you already know Marc Sanchez isn’t who you want to play too much so second-string could be in the works.
And dare I say first string?
I’m not rooting for it but starter Sam Bradford does get hurt a lot.
I can’t help it, I love Tebow.
We’ll see what God has planned for him.
