player. 87. Carolina’s dreams are crushed, as Todd Gurley goes one pick earlier to the Cardinals. That being said, the Panthers’ two biggest needs heading in to the draft are at WR and OT, though the safety position is a close third on that need list. Landon Collins was, at one time, considered a top-10 selection. Collins is a 6’0″, 228-pound, run-stuffing menace, who is the physical kind of strong safety that the Panthers’ brass covets. Carolina’s secondary is in year-two of its facelift, and the value presented at 25 is too hard to pass up. The Alabama product gives the Panthers a safety that is a sure tackler, as well as a player that can handle tight ends in the open field. Receivers like Breshad Perriman and Nelson Agholor are considered here, as well as offensive tackles D.J. Humphries and Jake Fisher. There are several receivers and tackles still on the board, so look for the Panthers to snag their WR2 or OT in round two. At the end of the day, Collins is the BPA selection, and the Panthers find the final piece to their secondary puzzle.
